In an era of intense heatwaves and deepening climate change, where air conditioning is a costly luxury many cannot afford, scientists in Australia have developed a revolutionary solution that could bring relief to millions.
Researchers at the University of Sydney have created a special paint that could potentially eliminate the need for air conditioners by keeping homes naturally cool.
This rooftop paint works in two ways. First, it reflects 96% of all solar radiation back into the atmosphere, preventing the building from heating up. Second, it simultaneously pulls water from the air, which significantly helps to lower the indoor temperature during peak hot weather.
The researchers state that this paint can reduce a roof’s surface temperature by up to 6 degrees Celsius compared to the surrounding air temperature. “When the sun is out, this paint keeps your roof cooler than the ambient environment,” the scientists explained.
This breakthrough offers a new ray of hope for people struggling with rising temperatures who cannot bear the financial burden of air conditioning.
