In a major escalation, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has once again broken the fragile ceasefire in Gaza, ordering his military to conduct immediate attacks.
This order comes amidst reports from foreign news agencies that Israel has been continuously violating the truce agreement ever since it was established.
According to Israeli media, the Prime Minister has directed the army to launch “immediate and massive” air and ground assaults on the Gaza Strip.
The Prime Minister’s Office stated that this decision was made after an emergency meeting convened by Netanyahu during the Knesset’s (Israeli parliament) winter session. Defending the action, the Prime Minister stated in the meeting, “Israel desires peace but cannot remain silent in the face of security threats.”
According to Arab media, Netanyahu justified the attacks by alleging that Israeli soldiers were attacked in southern Gaza. He also claimed that Hamas had committed violations related to the return of hostages’ bodies.
