According to US media, the disturbing incident occurred on a flight that departed from Chicago on Saturday. As per details, a 17-year-old boy was sleeping in his seat after the meal service. He suddenly woke up to find the suspect, Praneet Kumar, leaning over him. Before the boy could react, the suspect stabbed him in the left shoulder with a metal fork.
Immediately after, the suspect attacked another 17-year-old boy in the adjacent seat, striking him in the back of the head with the fork, which caused a cut.
When the flight crew tried to restrain the suspect, he resisted. He made a “gun” gesture with his fingers and acted as if he were shooting himself. During the commotion, he also slapped a female passenger sitting to his left and attempted to assault a flight attendant.
Due to this dangerous situation, the pilot was forced to make an emergency landing in Boston.
The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) took the suspect into custody. According to the US Attorney’s Office, the 28-year-old Indian citizen has been charged with ‘assault with intent to cause bodily harm using a dangerous weapon.’ If convicted, the suspect faces up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
