South Korea’s President Lee Jae-myung met with US President Donald Trump and awarded him the nation’s highest honor. During the occasion, President Lee Jae-myung also presented a golden crown to the US President as a gift.
Earlier, President Donald Trump had described South Korea as one of the few places with a sustainable democracy. “We are serious partners with South Korea, and we are going to strongly promote the shipbuilding industry,” he said.
Later, speaking at an APEC CEO Summit luncheon in South Korea, Donald Trump mentioned that a trade deal with South Korea would be finalized very soon. He also noted that South Korea is purchasing a large amount of weapons from the US.
The US President discussed his economic policies, saying, “When America prospers, our allies and the Indo-Pacific prosper.” He stated that permits for investors are being provided quickly and that factories in the US are booming.
Trump predicted that by the end of his second term, $21 to $22 trillion in investment could be coming into the US, and he expects 4% GDP growth in the next quarter.
He stressed that “economic security is national security” and that trade policy is a key factor for new investment.
In his speech, he also mentioned that the Chinese President is arriving tomorrow and that they might meet. He expressed hope for a deal between the US and China that would be “very good for both,” and also hoped for lasting peace in the Middle East.
