Islamabad: Pakistan’s Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) is holding a crucial meeting today, chaired by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, to deliberate on a significant nine-point agenda.
The most anticipated items include proposed amendments to the vehicle import policy, specifically affecting the personal baggage, transfer of residence, and gift schemes. These changes could significantly impact overseas Pakistanis and the process of bringing vehicles into the country.
In another major move, the committee will consider allowing the import and export of gold, gold jewelry, and precious stones. The ECC will review the potential withdrawal of the SRO (Statutory Regulatory Order) that currently suspends this trade, a decision eagerly awaited by the country’s jewelry industry.
The agenda also includes a review of the Import Policy Order 2022 to streamline the pre-shipment inspection regime. The committee is further expected to approve several technical supplementary grants for various ministries.
