In a significant move to stabilize its economy, Pakistan has upgraded its Geo-Science Advanced Research Laboratory to meet global benchmarks, focusing on the crucial minerals and mining sector. This modernization, guided by the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), was implemented under the Geological Survey of Pakistan (GSP).
The primary goal of this upgrade is to equip the mining sector with modern technology. It will allow both local and international companies to benefit from high-quality, reliable mineral analytical data.
Adnan Alam Awan, the Director-General of GSP, affirmed the lab’s new status, stating, “There is no doubt that this advanced research laboratory is now a state-of-the-art, world-class facility.”
The laboratory is now equipped with sophisticated instruments. Assistant Director Maria Awan explained that the new XRD machine and its accompanying software analyze data against a massive database containing information on over 100,000 different minerals.
Director Naghma Haider highlighted the importance of new tools like the Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) for the institute’s research capabilities. She added that through remote sensing, experts can now better analyze the earth’s surface to pinpoint the locations of valuable mineral deposits.
