NEW DELHI — India’s opposition party, Congress, has launched a sharp attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of diplomatic failures that have left India embarrassed and weakened internationally.
Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said Modi’s government has turned India into a pawn of global powers, claiming that major policy decisions are revealed abroad before they are announced at home — exposing what he called Modi’s “dependent and weak diplomacy.”
Ramesh pointed out that U.S. President Donald Trump had disclosed Modi’s commitment to halting Russian oil imports, even though New Delhi never issued an official statement. “Modi hides national policies, but Trump announces them,” he remarked, adding that Trump had also revealed the end of “Operation Sindoor” before the Indian government’s own confirmation.
Congress leaders further criticized Modi for skipping the Kuala Lumpur Summit and the Gaza Conference, calling it an attempt to avoid facing Trump.
The opposition accused Modi of compromising India’s sovereignty for personal political survival, saying his dream of becoming a “Vishwaguru” (teacher to the world) has “collapsed under the weight of his subservience to Trump.”
Political analysts believe that Modi’s foreign policy has eroded India’s diplomatic credibility, leaving the nation’s claim to independence and global leadership in serious doubt.
