In a significant move to provide public relief amid a surge in seasonal illnesses, the Sindh Health Care Commission (SHCC) has announced a dramatic reduction in the prices of critical diagnostic tests.
This decision comes as the province grapples with a concerning increase in both dengue and malaria cases. The new, standardized rates are effective immediately from October 21 and will remain in place until December 31, 2025.
The price cuts are substantial and aimed at easing the financial burden on patients. According to the SHCC, the fee for a malaria test has been slashed from Rs. 3,050 to just Rs. 600.
Similarly, the crucial Dengue NS1 diagnostic test, which previously cost Rs. 4,550, will now be available for Rs. 1,100. The fee for a Complete Blood Count (CBC) test, essential for monitoring infection, has been reduced from Rs. 1,250 to Rs. 500. Additionally, the price for the Dengue IGM test has been set at Rs. 1,500.
The Chief Executive Officer of the SHCC stated that this initiative is intended to directly benefit patients, confirming that the rising number of dengue and malaria cases prompted this urgent action.
