U.S. President Donald Trump said on Monday that he would file a $15 billion lawsuit for defamation and libel against The New York Times. The announcement comes just days after the newspaper published articles on his ties to the disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein.
This statement follows a threat Trump made last week to sue The New York Times for its reporting on a sexually suggestive note and drawing that were allegedly given to Epstein.
“Today, I have the Great Honor of bringing a $15 Billion Dollar Defamation and Libel Lawsuit against The New York Times,” Trump wrote in a post on his social media platform, Truth Social.
The New York Times did not immediately respond to a request for comment outside of regular business hours.
Trump accused the paper of lying about him, his family, and his businesses, as well as Republican-led movements and ideologies like the America First Movement and Make America Great Again (MAGA).
He added that the lawsuit would be filed in Florida but provided no further details.
