A small aircraft with 20 people on board crashed in Tennessee on Sunday. Several occupants sustained injuries and were transported to local hospitals. The plane, reportedly used for skydiving activities, went down shortly after taking off from Tullahoma Regional Airport.
Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the accident. The Tennessee Highway Patrol confirmed via X that its troopers were assisting police “at the scene of a plane crash on Old Shelbyville Road” in central Coffee County. “Some have been airlifted to nearby hospitals. This is an active scene,” the post stated, promising further updates.
Images circulated on social media showed a compact, white aircraft with its nose embedded in the grass and its tail section detached. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) identified the plane as a de Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter, confirming it “crashed shortly after departing Tullahoma Regional Airport in Tennessee around 12:45 pm local time (1745 GMT) on Sunday.” The FAA added, “Twenty people were on board. The FAA is investigating.” Local media outlets reported that the downed plane was utilized for skydiving expeditions.
