A 23-year-old resident of Orangi Town has tragically died after contracting Naegleria fowleri, commonly known as the brain-eating amoeba.
According to the deceased’s family, he developed a fever on May 28 and was initially admitted to a private hospital on May 30. As his condition deteriorated, he was transferred to another private hospital in Gulshan-e-Iqbal on June 1.
The patient was placed on a ventilator but ultimately succumbed to the infection.
The Sindh health department has confirmed that this marks the second fatality from this infection in the province this year.
