Jay-Z has filed a defamation lawsuit against attorney Tony Buzbee following his recent legal victory in a rape case.
The 55-year-old rap mogul launched a counter-lawsuit in Los Angeles on Monday, February 10, against Buzbee, who represented an anonymous accuser in court.
Jay-Z’s Legal Stand
In his lawsuit, Jay-Z claimed that Buzbee intentionally made false allegations of sexual assault against him, severely impacting his mental health.
The case stems from an anonymous woman, referred to as “Jane Doe,” who accused Jay-Z and fellow rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs of raping her at an MTV Video Music Awards afterparty in 2000.
Jay-Z’s Victory and Retaliatory Lawsuit
On February 15, 2025, the accuser dismissed her case, leading to Jay-Z and Diddy being cleared of all accusations.
Jay-Z alleged that Buzbee deliberately filed the lawsuit against him on the day of his daughter’s Mufasa: The Lion King movie premiere, forcing him into an impossible situation.
He stated, “I felt like Mr. Buzbee put a gun to my head—either I bow to his demands or suffer personal and financial ruin.”
As of now, Tony Buzbee has not publicly responded to Jay-Z’s claims.
