On Saturday, federal government ministers asserted that, whatever the circumstances, the required number of lawmakers existed to approve the highly anticipated 26th constitutional amendment.
The federal government is scheduled to meet today, Saturday, after multiple delays, to consider the judicial reform package. Following that, sessions in the National Assembly and the Senate will also resume.
Legislation known as the Constitutional Package makes a list of proposed changes to the Constitution, one of which is to extend the term of the chief justice. The PTI is represented on a special parliamentary committee that was established last month and has been discussing various proposals.
After the PPP made its proposals available to the public on October 11, it and the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) came to an agreement on a draft of the amendments that they could both use.
A meeting of the federal cabinet was originally scheduled for Friday evening. However, a special cabinet meeting to approve the draft bill was later announced for Saturday morning.
Today’s 9:30 a.m. cabinet meeting was once more postponed to 10 a.m., then to 12 p.m., and finally to 2 p.m., resulting in a total of four delays. The session hasn’t started yet.
As indicated by a proclamation by the NA on its X record, the previous meeting of the lower place of the parliament was concluded till 3pm today. The NA agenda that was shared on X does not include the Constitutional package. NA Speaker Ayaz Sadiq later changed the time of the assembly session from 3 to 7 p.m. It was once more later moved to 9:30 p.m. for the third time.
