Ethiopian athletes reigned supreme at the Berlin Marathon, securing wins in both the men’s and women’s categories.
In the men’s event, 24-year-old Melkisa Mengesha from Ethiopia triumphed by defeating Kenya’s Cybrian Kot by a narrow margin of just five seconds, finishing the race in 2 hours, 3 minutes, and 17 seconds. Another Ethiopian, Hemanot Alew, secured third place.
In the women’s event, 26-year-old Tigist Ketema, also from Ethiopia, claimed first place with a time of 2 hours, 16 minutes, and 42 seconds. Her compatriots Mestawot Fikir and Bosena Mulatie finished second and third, respectively.
