Jakarta: A significant landslide at an illegal gold mine in Indonesia has buried over 20 individuals, raising fears for their survival.
According to international news sources, this incident occurred in the western province of Sumatra following heavy rainfall. At the time of the landslide, more than 20 people were engaged in searching for gold.
Rescue teams have retrieved the bodies of 15 individuals from the rubble, but seven others remain trapped beneath the debris, with hopes of finding them alive diminishing by the hour.
Adverse weather conditions have hampered rescue efforts, and the illegal nature of the mine meant that proper safety precautions were not in place.
Indonesia, rich in mineral resources, is home to numerous illegal mines, many of which are located in remote areas and remain off the radar of authorities.
