Bangladesh’s star all-rounder and captain, Shakib Al Hasan, finds himself in deeper legal trouble as he is now facing a hefty fine.
According to media reports, the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission has fined Shakib 5 million Taka for manipulating stock prices. The commission stated that Shakib’s actions violated the Securities Act by artificially influencing the price of shares, prompting this penalty.
Previously, Shakib Al Hasan, a former member of parliament under Sheikh Hasina’s government, had contested elections on the Awami League ticket.
In another serious allegation, Shakib was charged with involvement in the murder of a garment factory worker in Dhaka on August 23. The victim’s father filed a murder case against Shakib at the local police station.
During Bangladesh’s tour of Pakistan, a murder case was filed against Shakib, which led to him skipping his return trip home with the team. Instead, he went to England and later joined the team in India for the series against India after traveling from London to Delhi.
