Hindu extremists have called for a strike in Gwalior on October 6, coinciding with the T20 match between India and Bangladesh, intensifying political tensions around the game.
According to media reports, the first match of the three-match series is scheduled at Madhavrao Scindia Stadium, but rising political tensions have added controversy to the event.
The Hindu Mahasabha organization has declared that they will not allow the Bangladesh team to play in Gwalior.
Amid growing pressure from extremist groups, there have been calls to cancel the series following the ousting of former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government.
Earlier, the Mahasabha had threatened protests outside the stadium upon the arrival of the Bangladeshi team.
Meanwhile, the second Test match between India and Bangladesh is scheduled to start in Kanpur on September 27, with heightened security in place. The T20 series is slated for October in Chennai, Kanpur, Gwalior, Delhi, and Hyderabad, with potential protests expected in several cities during the matches.
Extremist groups have accused Bangladesh of mistreating the Hindu minority following Sheikh Hasina’s ousting, fueling tensions ahead of the matches.
