Washington: The United States has expressed concerns that the ongoing tension between Lebanon and Israel could escalate into a full-scale war.
U.S. National Security spokesperson John Kirby stated that both countries have been warned about the potential damage that could result from increased tensions in the region.
Kirby criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, saying that his stubbornness may not work in his favor. He added that Netanyahu appears intent on continuing operations until Jewish settlers are allowed to return, a move that could also be detrimental to the settlers.
Describing the current tensions between Lebanon and Israel as highly unusual and dangerous, Kirby emphasized that despite the challenges, the U.S. will seek a diplomatic solution to the escalation.
It is noteworthy that last week, explosions involving pagers and walkie-talkies resulted in the deaths of 39 civilians, including members of the resistance group Hezbollah, and over 4,000 injuries in Lebanon. Additionally, airstrikes by Israel on Friday led to the deaths of 45 individuals.
