HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) — A Harris County public defender now finds himself in need of legal representation as he awaits his court date.
Douglas Evans, 35, faces charges of driving while intoxicated and evading arrest after leading Harris County deputies on a chase Thursday night.
Investigators told that, fortunately, no one was injured during the high-speed chase in northwest Harris County.
According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, Evans led deputies on a 10.3-mile chase, reaching speeds of 110 mph on US 290.
Deputies attempted to stop Evans on US 290 at State Highway 99 for speeding and reckless driving, but he continued to drive.
The chase ended when Evans finally stopped on Field Store Road off US 290.
Evans is accused of driving recklessly and swerving between lanes. Deputies reported that he declined a breathalyzer test and failed field sobriety tests.
Court records confirm that Evans has been a public defender in Harris County for just over a year.
It is currently unclear if this arrest will affect his employment status.
Harris County Public Defender’s Office on Friday afternoon for comment, but they declined to respond.
