HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Several members of a travel group who had disembarked from a cruise in the Pacific Northwest arrived at Bush Intercontinental Airport with flu-like symptoms, as disclosed by multiple agencies to.
The Houston Fire Department reported being called to Terminal C at 6:20 p.m. regarding numerous sick passengers on a flight from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. These passengers had just returned from a cruise.
According to the HFD, up to 30 individuals from a travel group of about 75 fell ill. First responders evaluated three patients, but none required hospital transport.
Fire officials noted that the passengers had been experiencing symptoms since the cruise, primarily complaining of nausea.
United Airlines confirmed the incident, stating that several passengers who had been on the same cruise felt unwell during Flight 1528 on Friday.
The airline added that the aircraft was taken out of service for a thorough cleaning before it resumed flights.
United Airlines specified that Flight 1528 was a Boeing 737 MAX 8 with 163 passengers and six crew members on board.
