HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Are you ready for that fall feel to return to Houston? Ready or not, it’s coming in overnight, and this front has some serious staying power.
Temperatures overnight will drop down into the low 60s in Houston with upper 50s possible north of the city. The breeze will blow steadily from the north at up to 20 mph, and that will keep highs in the 70s despite an abundance of sunshine.
How cool will it get behind the front?
We expect highs in the 70s and lows in the 50s Sunday through Wednesday, and we’re now predicting temperatures to briefly dip into the upper 40s Tuesday morning. If that happens at Bush Airport, it’ll be the first time since March 20th. Enjoy!
What kind of weather should we expect for the solar eclipse on Saturday?
It should be perfect eclipse-viewing weather! The sky will be clear with temperatures in the 70s. Just make sure you have special solar glasses or solar filters on any viewing devices before you look up.
When could we get more rain?
Our next opportunity for rain won’t occur until late next week when our next weather system rolls through Texas. The timing is still hard to pin down, but at this time it looks like a toss-up between Thursday and Friday.
What is happening in the tropics?
Based on the projected steering currents over the Gulf, we are likely in the clear from any direct hits for the rest of hurricane season. That said, we’re entering the time of year when we have to pay closer attention to what’s happening in the Pacific since those storms can recurve into Mexico and send heavy rains to Texas.
