Bollywood and Punjabi cinema’s renowned actor and singer Diljit Dosanjh is facing criticism from both sides after he was booed by Khalistan supporters during his Canadian tour. In a conversation with his fans during his concert in Calgary, Dosanjh expressed his understanding of the challenges he is facing, stating that he believes he is on the right path. Despite facing backlash for his performances and fan fervor, Dosanjh vowed to put in his best effort to make the evening memorable for his fans.
However, the atmosphere became electric when Dosanjh spotted young fans chanting the slogan “Punjabi aag payee oo” (Punjabi will never die). Smiling, he repeated the phrase and delivered a meaningful message in Punjabi, saying, “You can try to stop it as much as you want, but when it reaches the children, the spirit of Punjabi will never die.” Later, he opened up and said, “I’m facing criticism from both sides. When I’m in India, they say I’m promoting Khalistan, and when I’m here, they make other sorts of allegations. I don’t know where to go. Despite all this, I believe I’m on the right path, and I have only love to share with everyone.”
Diljit Dosanjh was forced to pause his show in Calgary temporarily when a large number of Khalistan supporters protested against the Indian government and raised slogans against the mistreatment of Sikhs and other minorities in India. This is not the first time Dosanjh has addressed the situation during his tour. Earlier, he stopped the show in Calgary when Khalistan supporters raised slogans and waved Khalistan flags.
Dosanjh is currently touring North America, performing in various cities including Rosemont, Orlando, Dallas, Nashville, Atlanta, New York, Toronto, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. In the film industry, Dosanjh will be seen in the upcoming film “Vaa oongaa” directed by Imtiaz Ali. The film is a love story about a couple separated by circumstances, starring Naushaad Khan, Sharvari and Vedang Raina. The music for the film has been composed by AR Rahman. The film is set to release on June 12, 2026.
