According to a statement released by the US Department of State, American embassies worldwide have dispatched cables to their respective countries, urging them to enter into a new agreement known as the Mertiem Freedom Construct. This move comes after US President Donald Trump claimed last week that the Hormuz Strait is fully open and ready for business.
However, the term “Hormuz Strait” has been disputed by Iranian officials, with Abbas Irani calling it a “serious mistake.” Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi has stated that Tehran is prepared to reconsider diplomatic relations with the US following a change in their approach.
Meanwhile, a report by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) suggests that most of Iran’s enriched uranium may still be stored at its nuclear facility in Isfahan. In a separate development, India has proposed a contentious plan to control illegal immigration and smuggling by deploying snakes and other venomous reptiles along its 4,096-kilometer-long border with Bangladesh.
