Karachi Kings have regained their hope for the playoffs by defeating Quetta Gladiators by 9 wickets in the 37th match of Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11. The match was played at the Qaddafi Stadium in Lahore, where Karachi Kings achieved their target of 196 runs in just 18.3 overs.
Quetta Gladiators, who batted first, scored 195 runs in 20 overs, losing 6 wickets. Rilee Rossouw played a magnificent innings of 90 runs off 54 balls, including 8 fours and 6 sixes. Quetta captain Saud Shakil scored 57 runs in an aggressive manner, while Dane Vilas contributed 30 not-out runs. However, Quetta’s opening batsmen, Usman Shinwari and Khawaja Nafees, got out early without scoring much.
For Karachi Kings, Hasan Ali and Abbas Afridi took 2 wickets each, while Rehmanullah also sent two batsmen back to the pavilion. In the chase, Karachi Kings made a sensational start, where Jason Roy was out after scoring 20 runs. However, David Warner and Rilee Rossouw’s unbeaten 141-run partnership proved to be the turning point. Warner scored 89 runs off 48 balls, while Rossouw scored 87 runs off 48 balls.
Quetta’s bowlers were unable to contain Warner and Rossouw, with only Javed Khan taking a wicket. The victory has helped Karachi Kings to occupy the fourth position in the points table, while Quetta Gladiators have been eliminated from the event. Karachi Kings will now wait for the results of the matches between Lahore Qalandars-Peshawar Zalmi and Hyderabad Kings-Multan Sultan to qualify for the playoffs.
Meanwhile, in another match of PSL 11, Lahore Qalandars defeated Peshawar Zalmi by 6 wickets, eliminating them from the event. Islamabad United has become the third team to qualify for the playoffs by defeating Hyderabad Kings.
Former Nigerian footballer Michael Eneramo passed away during a friendly match. According to British media, the 40-year-old Eneramo suffered a heart attack. The Nigerian Football Federation has confirmed his death.
