Iran, Israel, and Lebanon have agreed to a temporary ceasefire, a move that comes after months of escalating tensions in the region. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that US President Donald Trump had requested a ceasefire in Lebanon, and he expressed his country’s readiness to accept this demand.
According to Arab media reports, Netanyahu addressed the Israeli Cabinet, stating that he had expressed Israel’s willingness to accept the ceasefire demanded by President Trump. The US President had earlier announced that Lebanon and Israel had agreed on a 10-day ceasefire, marking the first time in 34 years that the two countries had met in Washington DC.
However, Iran, which has been accused of aggression against Israel in Lebanon, has expressed its reluctance to accept any temporary ceasefire. Iranian officials, including Foreign Ministry Spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh, have stated that Iran will not accept any temporary truce.
Meanwhile, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi has announced that the Strait of Hormuz will remain open for trade vessels during the ceasefire period. The Iranian government has also expressed its gratitude to Pakistan for its role in facilitating the ceasefire talks.
Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has been praised by US President Donald Trump for his efforts in mediating the conflict. Trump has also expressed his appreciation for Pakistani Field Marshal Asim Munir’s role in the diplomatic efforts.
In related news, a Pakistani ship, Khairpur, has set sail from Kuwait and is headed towards the Strait of Hormuz. The ship is expected to pass through the Strait during the ceasefire period.
The news of the Strait of Hormuz opening has led to a significant decrease in oil prices, with crude oil prices falling by 12% following the announcement.
In other developments, the British opposition parties have demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, while Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has stated that the country’s military forces remain on high alert during the ceasefire period.
Lastly, a Lego-style animated video has been released by Iranian creators, which depicts a “Nerf war” against the US and President Trump.
