The International Cricket Council (ICC) is facing criticism from cricketers who participated in the recently concluded ICC T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka. South African cricketers, Quinton de Kock and David Miller, took to social media to express their frustration over the delayed repatriation of their team.
Both cricketers pointed out that England’s team had already flown back home, while their teams, West Indies and South Africa, were still waiting for clearance to return. De Kock stated that it was absurd that the ICC had not contacted them despite the England team leaving before them. Miller added that it was laughable that the ICC had managed to arrange a charter flight for England’s team but was still waiting to clear West Indies and South Africa’s teams.
The West Indies team has been waiting for four days to return home, while the South African team has been waiting for seven days. This development comes after West Indies cricketers also took to social media to express their frustration over the delayed repatriation.
In another development, New Zealand’s Sodhi took three wickets in the 14th over against India in the T20 World Cup final in Ahmedabad, giving India another record. Both teams are still in Kolkata, awaiting their return, with the original plan to leave on Sunday afternoon being delayed. The T20 World Cup final was played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, where New Zealand won the toss and invited India to bat first.
According to sources, the official schedule for the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11 will be announced next week. New Zealand captain, Kane Williamson, said that he felt bad seeing some people crying at the Narendra Modi Stadium but added that it was not his concern. The Australian women’s cricket captain, Ellyse Perry, ended her international career with a win over India in the Test match.
In another development, Australian fast bowler, Mitchell Starc, took five wickets in five balls against India in the Test match, breaking the record. The ICC meeting has been postponed due to the escalating tensions in the region, according to a report on the BCCI website.
In a different sports development, the Lahore Region Whites defeated the Peshawar Region in the first match of the National T20 Cup. Mohammad Rizwan, in a press conference in Lahore, said that they have players with experience of playing in Bangladesh.
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has hinted at postponing the white-ball series due to escalating tensions in the region. Former Pakistani cricketer, Mohammad Amir, has hit back at former Indian cricketer, Mohammad Kaif, saying that he built his career through hard work, not just fielding.
The UAE has asked its Pakistani residents to refrain from sharing irresponsible content on social media. Former Pakistani cricketer, Shoaib Akhtar, has criticized the government for not reducing its expenses, saying that the people are being burdened with a hike in petrol prices, while the provincial government is refusing to increase the prices, and the federal government should reduce its expenses instead of burdening the people.
In a separate development, Switzerland has condemned the US and Israeli attack on Iran, saying that it is a violation of international law.
