India’s Karnataka Minister and Congress leader Pramod Madhwaraj Kharge has revealed that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) organization does not pay taxes, raising questions about its financial transparency. Speaking at a private event in Bengaluru, Kharge stated that the RSS receives funds from approximately 2,500 organizations, including those in the US and UK, which suggests money laundering.
He questioned how the RSS can ask people to be good citizens and pay income tax while exempting itself from taxation. Kharge demanded that the RSS be registered under the law and brought under the purview of the Constitution, and that no organization should be above the law.
This statement comes after RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat claimed that the RSS is not a registered organization as it is a group of individuals, and therefore, registration is not necessary. Kharge disagreed, stating that if other organizations are registered and pay taxes, then the RSS should also be accountable.
