HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — We may be sweating now in this humid, tropical air, but you can bust out your sweaters next week when our strongest cold front so far this fall blasts into Houston.
For now, we sweat. Temperatures Wednesday morning will start off mild, in the lower 70s as humid Gulf air keeps flowing in on the strong southeast breeze. Moisture levels will climb on Wednesday, bringing back a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms. High temperatures will top out in the mid 90s under a partly sunny sky.
Ragweed, elm tree, and grass pollens remain high, so keep that in mind if you have allergies to those pollens and plan to spend time outside.
How high are rain chances for the rest of the week?
After Wednesday’s 30% chance for rain, deeper tropical moisture will flow in Thursday to bring widely scattered downpours. That will push rain chances up to at least 60%. Moisture levels will remain elevated for Friday, keep in a 40% chance for scattered downpours. Those rain chances drop down to 20% for Saturday as the deeper moisture lifts north.
When is that strong cold front supposed to arrive?
The timing of the front has sped up to a Sunday evening or early Monday morning arrival. While the timing isn’t set in stone, we’re feeling more confident that it will be significantly cooler for Halloween and the first few days of November.
What’s the early outlook for trick-or-treat time next Tuesday?
We are very confident it will be chilly with temperatures dropping from the 60s into the 50s as the evening goes on. We are also fairly confident it will be dry, with the majority of the rains from this front ending late Monday. For now we are keeping a 20% chance of showers in the forecast and will keep you posted as the time draws near.
What is happening in the tropics?
Currently, we are monitoring a system in the Pacific that will send moisture into Texas this week. For the latest tropical update, head to our Tropical Update page.
