HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A few showers and thunderstorms are possible to pop up Wednesday afternoon, so keep an eye on the radar if you have any outdoor plans. Any storm could bring heavy rain, lightning, and gusty winds. Make sure you head indoors if you hear thunder. High temperatures will warm in the low to mid 90s.
What are our rain chances for the rest of the week?
They are slim to be honest. Rain chances will be only 20% for Wednesday and Thursday. After Thursday, drier air will blow in from the northeast and push rain chances closer to zero percent for Friday and Saturday. We’ll get brushed by some moisture on Sunday that might be good enough for a 10% chance of a storm, especially in our coastal counties.
What else can we expect for the weekend?
Temperatures this weekend will climb into the mid 90s, near record values for this time of year. It will also be fairly sunny both Saturday and Sunday, so if you plan to spend the weekend poolside, make sure to protect yourself from the sun.
When will it start to feel like fall?
We will likely have to wait until mid October for our first chance at getting a cold front that brings a real taste of fall. On average, Houston’s first morning low in the 50s occurs on Sept. 29, but given how warm it is expected to remain over Canada these next two weeks, we will be waiting much longer than normal this year in Houston.
Are there any other tropical threats on the horizon for the Gulf of Mexico?
At this time, no tropical development is expected in the Gulf in the next 7 days. Tropical Storm Philippe will likely weaken over the next few days. For a full overview of what’s happening in the tropics, head to our tropical webpage. Tropical Update page.
