Peshawar, Pakistan β Former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi warned that disrespecting the publicβs democratic mandate could lead to irreparable damage to the country. He urged stakeholders to abandon the current ‘politics of abuse’ and demonstrate patience and restraint in the tense political environment.
Addressing an event for the members of the ‘Awam Pakistan Party’ at the Peshawar Press Club, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi outlined his party’s objectives. He stated that their goal is not merely to gain power or chairs, but to benefit the nation. He emphasized that the only path for the country’s progress is through strict adherence to the law and the Constitution.
Youth Concerns and Political Division
The former Prime Minister expressed deep concern over the growing problems faced by the youth, warning that if they are not provided with education and business opportunities, they will become the greatest burden on the country. He stressed the need to end political divisiveness, arguing that the politics of mutual blame-game fails to solve the public’s real issues and only fuels discord.
Governor’s Rule and Respect for the Mandate
Addressing the political instability, Abbasi alluded to the potential for Governor’s Rule to be imposed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, suggesting it could potentially spread to other provinces. However, he clearly cautioned that “negating the publicβs mandate will be detrimental to the country.” He lamented the unfortunate reality that public opinion is not respected in Pakistan and insisted that any constitutional amendment must stem from the clear will of the people.
Regarding cross-border attacks from Afghanistan, he stated that war is never a solution and that as Afghanistan is a neighboring country, they should be restrained through dialogue. He concluded by urging all parties to play their part in unifying the country, warning that ignoring Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will only exacerbate the problems.
