The nation commemorated Youm-e-Takbeer (Day of Greatness) with profound patriotic spirit, as rallies and ceremonies were held across the country to mark the historic day when Pakistan emerged as a nuclear power.
Pakistan had declared a public holiday on Youm-e-Takbeer to observe the anniversary of the May 28, 1998, nuclear tests conducted at the Ras Koh Hills in the Chagai District of Balochistan.
These tests, codenamed Chagai-I, represented Pakistan’s inaugural public demonstration of its nuclear weapons capability, positioning it as the seventh nation globally and the first Muslim-majority country to possess nuclear arms.
This pivotal decision was a direct response to India’s Pokhran-II nuclear tests, which had been carried out earlier in May of the same year.
