Lahore, Pakistan – Pakistan T20 Cricket Team Captain Salman Ali Agha has taken a clear position regarding the team’s readiness for the upcoming World Cup. He stated that there is no possibility of any major changes in the T20 squad before the World Cup, and the team will enter the global mega-event with the existing combination.
Speaking on the PCB podcast, the captain emphasized the continuous evolution of the team. He mentioned that “all players have been assigned their roles, and we will move forward with these roles,” because the team has been playing with the same combination for six months, and results are beginning to show.
Vision and Future Dreams
Salman Ali Agha shared his big dream for the upcoming global tournaments. He stated: “I want us to win the T20 World Cup in 2026 and then the ODI World Cup in 2027; winning both these World Cups is my dream.” He expressed confidence that the team is now fully prepared for the World Cup.
The captain noted that major changes are not feasible in the remaining 6 matches before the World Cup, as consistency is key. He highlighted the importance of the upcoming series against Sri Lanka, saying that while senior players are familiar with the pitches, the new players will gain valuable experience.
Personal Pressure and Team Trajectory
In response to a question, Salman Ali Agha admitted that the Pakistan team is now on the right track but still needs significant improvement. He expressed hope that the team will soon reach the position where the nation and team management aspire to see it.
He also addressed personal pressure: “It’s impossible to be the captain of the team and not feel pressure,” but he has now learned to balance captaincy and batting. To keep himself fresh, he has decided not to participate in any league over the next three or four months. Finally, he emphasized his close relationship with Babar Azam, stating that he has always viewed him as a friend, rather than just a great batsman.
