The highly anticipated World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025 cricket fixture between arch-rivals Pakistan and India has been officially canceled. The match, originally scheduled for Sunday at Edgbaston, was called off after organizers confirmed the decision via an official statement on the tournament’s social media.
“We at WCL have always cherished and loved cricket, and our only aim has been to give fans some good, happy moments,” the statement read. It continued, “After hearing the news that the Pakistan hockey team will be coming to India this year, and seeing recent India vs Pakistan volleyball and other inter-nation fixtures, we thought of continuing with the India vs Pakistan match at WCL — just to create some happy memories for people around the globe.”
However, the statement concluded with the decision: “We have decided to call off the India vs Pakistan match. We sincerely apologize for hurting sentiments and hope people will understand that all we ever wanted was to bring a few happy moments to the fans.”
Former Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan also posted on X, sharing a formal notification about his decision not to play in WCL matches against Pakistan.
It’s worth noting that the Pakistan Champions, led by Mohammad Hafeez, began their WCL 2025 campaign with a narrow five-run victory over the England Champions. Chasing 161, England was restricted to 155-3 in 20 overs, thanks to a tight final over from Sohail Khan, who successfully defended 16 runs while conceding only 10, securing the win for his team.
