Intensity of the Fire and Rescue Efforts
Rapidly spreading wildfires near Los Angeles have forced over 70,000 people to evacuate their homes and have destroyed hundreds of buildings. The fires, spread across three different locations, have consumed over 5,000 acres of land. The largest blaze in Pacific Palisades has caused significant damage to numerous structures. Strong winds have made it increasingly difficult to control the fires.
Actions by Local Authorities
California Governor Gavin Newsom has declared a state of emergency and ordered the closure of hundreds of schools statewide. Emergency responders are going door-to-door to evacuate residents, and power has been cut to approximately 188,000 homes.
Facing Natural Disasters
In Malibu, the fires have destroyed several homes and businesses. Traffic congestion on the roads has further hindered emergency service operations. Authorities have requested federal aid and are using aircraft and bulldozers to combat the spreading flames.
