WhatsApp is revamping its call menu for both individual and group chats, aiming to provide a more streamlined and efficient calling experience.
The redesigned feature, spotted in WhatsApp beta 2.25.5.8 for Android, is currently available to limited beta testers via the Google Play Beta Program.
- What’s changing?
- Merging call buttons – Instead of separate voice and video call buttons, WhatsApp is introducing a single dropdown menu beside the chat or group name.
- New overflow menu – Tapping the new call icon will open a menu with options:
- Voice Call
- Video Call
- More (for advanced options)
- Better Group Call Management: Users can now select group members before initiating a call, eliminating the need to navigate to the Calls tab.
- Quick Call Links: A shortcut within the menu lets users generate a call link instantly, making it easier to invite others.
- Why does this update matter?
- Prevents Accidental Calls: No more unintentional voice or video calls due to separate buttons.
- Faster Access to Calls: Reduces steps required to make a call.
- Improved Group Calling Experience: Lets users choose members before placing a call.
