Trump Signed an Executive Order Delaying TikTok Ban by 75 Days
U.S. President Donald Trump signed a series of executive orders and took other actions since his inauguration on Monday, addressing a range of issues that could impact millions of Americans and non-citizens. These actions aimed to fulfill campaign promises on illegal immigration, federal workforce size, energy and the environment, gender and diversity policies, and pardons for supporters involved in the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack.
Here are some of the key actions Trump has taken so far:
Immigration
Trump declared a national emergency at the U.S.-Mexico border and issued a broad ban on asylum for migrants “engaged in the invasion across the southern border.”
He instructed the Defense Department to prioritize border sealing, border wall construction, detention facilities, and migrant transportation.
Trump ordered the suspension of refugee admissions into the U.S. and canceled the arrival of 1,660 Afghan refugees.
He revived the “Remain in Mexico” policy, requiring non-Mexican asylum seekers to wait in Mexico until their U.S. cases are resolved.
Cutting the Size of the Federal Workforce
Trump ordered federal workers to return to the office full-time and to end remote work.
He imposed a hiring freeze for federal agencies, except for military, immigration enforcement, national security, and public safety jobs.
Trump reinstated his first-term Schedule F executive order, making it easier to fire federal employees by removing their job protections.
Government Diversity Programs and Gender Issues
Trump signed an order eliminating government diversity programs, including all federal offices related to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).
He directed the closure of all federal DEI offices and placed staff on paid leave.
Trump rescinded an order from former President Joe Biden that allowed transgender individuals to serve in the military.
Expanding Energy Production
Trump declared a national energy emergency to expand energy production, roll back regulations, and end rules aimed at accelerating the transition to electric vehicles.
He signed orders promoting oil and gas development in Alaska, reversing Biden’s efforts to protect Arctic lands from drilling.
Paris Climate Agreement
Trump ordered the U.S. to withdraw from the Paris climate agreement, removing the world’s top historic emitter of greenhouse gases from the pact.
Withdrawal from World Health Organization
Trump ordered his administration to begin withdrawing from the World Health Organization, citing mishandling of the COVID-19 pandemic.
January 6 Pardons
Trump pardoned around 1,500 supporters involved in the Capitol attack, including leaders of far-right groups like the Oath Keepers and Proud Boys.
TikTok and DOGE
Trump signed an executive order delaying the TikTok ban by 75 days, which was scheduled to shut down on January 19.
He established an advisory group, the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), to oversee significant cuts to the U.S. government, leading to immediate legal challenges.
