The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) announced on Friday that Karachi is likely to experience partly cloudy and humid weather over the next 24 hours, with a chance of drizzle or light rain in the morning and at night. The city’s maximum temperature is expected to be between 31 and 33 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature recorded was 28 degrees. According to the department, humidity is at 78%, with sea breezes blowing at 15 kilometers per hour.
In contrast, the weather in Quetta and its surrounding areas remained clear and dry, with most of Balochistan also seeing clear skies and humid conditions. However, the Met Office forecasts rain at a few locations in Zhob and Musakhel today. Most districts of the province are likely to experience hot and humid weather, while the coastal belt of Balochistan is expected to remain partly cloudy.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) issued a rain alert on Tuesday for several parts of the country, warning that Karachi could face urban flooding between August 30 and September 2. The NDMA also noted that Karachi, Thatta, Sujawal, Badin, and Tharparkar are expected to receive rainfall from August 30 to September 2. Hyderabad, Dadu, Sukkur, Ghotki, Larkana, Jacobabad, and Kashmore may experience heavy downpours between August 30 and September 1.
A previous rain spell earlier this month brought Pakistan’s financial hub, Karachi, to a standstill. The coastal city, which is home to over 20 million people, recorded 10 deaths, with victims either electrocuted or crushed by collapsing roofs. Pakistan has been hit by a severe monsoon season this year, with landslides and floods caused by torrential rains killing over 800 people since June.
