HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — The World Series isn’t the only thing rolling into Houston Friday. A round of severe weather is also possible as a line of thunderstorms sweeps through much of Texas.
It’s important to keep in mind that the chance you’ll get rain is high, but the chance you’ll encounter severe weather is lower. That said, tornadoes, hail, high winds, and street flooding are all possible, so it would be wise to have a way to receive weather alerts and a plan in place to seek shelter if you are placed under a warning.
Friday will start off cloudy with a few showers rolling in from the Gulf of Mexico as a warm front tries to push inland. The main line of thunderstorms will push through during the late morning and early afternoon hours. Wind shear will be high, which will allow storms to rotate and possibly produce severe weather, including isolated tornadoes. Our biggest question mark is how far north the warm front will push in unstable air from the Gulf. If the warm front stays mostly offshore, then we’ll still get rain but no severe weather. However, if the warm front pushes all the way to Houston, then severe weather will be more likely for the Bayou City. The worst of the weather should be long gone by first pitch for the World Series, but showers and a few thunderstorms could still linger through the game.
#WorldSeries forecast update: We still expect the severe weather threat to end before first pitch, but showers and t-storms could linger all the way through the game. Head here for more on the severe threat Friday: https://t.co/kYz1z4P7gd #txwx #houwx #LevelUp #astros pic.twitter.com/oEvARzwJGJ

How much rain could we get?
An inch of less will be common, but a swath of 2-4″ totals is possible where the heavier storms set up, which could lead to brief street flooding.
What can we expect for Halloween weekend?
The cool front coming in behind the storms Friday night will bring us another round of cooler, drier weather. It will be breezy, mostly cloudy, and cool for Saturday with highs in the 60s. Sunday brings more sunshine and a high in the 70s. The nice weather should continue into Monday making for perfect trick-or-treat weather Monday night.
