Tennis World No. 1, Carlos Alcaraz of Spain, has issued a strong criticism of the sport’s exhaustive schedule while speaking at the Paris Masters. He has called for significant changes to the current format, highlighting the immense pressure placed on players.
Alcaraz specifically criticized the densely packed calendar, arguing that the current structure fails to provide athletes with even a single week for proper rest and practice. “The number of tournaments we have to play is too many,” he stated. “We don’t have time for rest and practice.”
He insisted that the issue needs to be addressed seriously, adding that “something must be done about the calendar.”
This criticism comes as the ATP calendar famously spans eleven months of the year, beginning in December and only concluding in November with the Tour Finals. This lengthy season includes 60 tournaments, with mandatory participation required in 16 events.
