In southwest Houston, a tragic discovery unfolded on Sunday night when a woman taking out her trash stumbled upon the lifeless body of a young man shot to death in her front yard, according to police reports.
The victim, identified by family members as 17-year-old Carddell London, was found at the residence on Brookmeade Drive near Bathurst Drive, just a block away from James Madison High School, where he was a student.
Altisha London, the victim’s mother, shared with ABC13 that she relocated her family from Louisiana to Houston three years ago to escape violence and provide a better life for her loved ones.
Despite her efforts, tragedy struck, with London losing his life to the very streets she sought to protect him from. Investigators suspect that London was acquainted with his assailant, as surveillance footage captured them walking together before four gunshots rang out.
Residents in the area expressed concerns over a nearby residence, which has been a source of trouble for years. One neighbor, preferring anonymity due to fear of reprisal, noted issues dating back to 2019, including unauthorized parking by students and instances of drug use.
Another neighbor described feeling like a prisoner in her own home, gripped by fear of venturing outside. According to the Houston Police Department, they have responded to at least four shooting-related incidents at the address since 2021.
Despite the severity of the situation, residents hesitate to intervene, citing fear of retaliation and reluctance to involve authorities. Efforts to engage local officials, including discussions with the high school, have been made to address the escalating crime in the neighborhood.
Altisha London and her family are appealing for anyone with pertinent information to come forward, hoping to find closure and justice for their beloved son.
