HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Exclusive video obtained by captures the dramatic moment when EMS rescued a newborn boy from a dumpster on Sunday around 2 p.m. The incident occurred behind an apartment complex on Dashwood Drive in southwest Houston.
is seeking confirmation from the police regarding details provided by the apartment manager. According to the manager, a taco truck employee gave birth inside a nearby food truck and then discarded the baby in the dumpster before returning to clean the mobile restaurant.
In footage taken by witnesses, EMS can be seen wrapping the newborn boy in a blanket next to a dumpster filled with trash. The baby’s hair is still wet, his umbilical cord appears fresh, and his skin is pink and pruned.
Police reported that a passerby heard the baby crying from the dumpster just before 2 p.m. on Sunday and called for help. EMS found the baby alive and alert inside a bag in the dumpster.
On Tuesday afternoon, observed Houston Police Department investigators focusing on the food truck where the baby was allegedly born. Investigators took photos inside the truck and spoke with multiple individuals who witnesses identified as employees and owners.
The apartment manager noted that the truck had only been parked there for about three months. The baby boy was taken to the hospital, found to be in good health, and is now under the care of Child Protective Services. Police are continuing to investigate who abandoned the baby.
