Aftab Shabaan Mirani, a former Chief Minister of Sindh and one of the most senior leaders of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), has passed away in Karachi after a prolonged illness.
His family confirmed the news of his death. Mirani had been receiving treatment at a hospital and was moved back to his home just one week ago.
According to the family, the funeral prayer will be held tonight at 10 PM at Masjid Bait-ul-Islam in Defence Phase 4, followed by the burial at Gizri graveyard.
Originally from the Shikarpur district, Mirani had been a long-time resident of Karachi and was widely respected as a foundational member of the PPP.
President Asif Ali Zardari expressed deep sorrow over his passing. In his condolence message, the President noted that Mirani was a close associate of both Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and Provincial Assembly Speaker Owais Qadir Shah also expressed their deep grief over the loss. CM Murad Ali Shah had personally visited Mirani at the hospital last week to inquire about his health.
