Karachi: Onijah Andrew Robinson, the US woman who made headlines after traveling to Pakistan in search of love, only to be abandoned by her Karachi lover, is currently receiving treatment at Jinnah Hospital.
Sources confirmed that Onijah was moved to the hospital’s psychiatric ward after being brought in by the police last night. Hospital officials noted that her initial examination revealed severe swelling in her feet and incoherent, disoriented speech. The hospital staff is conducting various diagnostic tests, including blood samples.
Onijah had come to Karachi in October last year to marry Nidal Ahmed Memon, 19, following an online romance. However, she was allegedly dumped by her lover, who cited family reservations about their marriage.
An NGO provided Onijah with a return ticket to the United States and financial support, but she refused to leave. Instead, she went to Memon’s apartment and camped out in the parking area.
Onijah’s Son Claims She Has Bipolar Disorder
Earlier, Onijah’s son, Jeremiah Robinson, in a video statement, claimed that his mother was suffering from a mental disorder.
In the video, Jeremiah identified Onijah as his mother and showed a birth certificate mentioning her name. He disputed the claims of his mother’s love story, calling them false.
“Onijah and Nidal knew each other before she went to Pakistan. She was only supposed to visit him and his family as a vacation,” said Jeremiah. “When it was time for her to return, she refused. Nidal did not discourage her, and she was supposed to return on January 15 when Nidal had booked her ticket.”
Jeremiah confirmed that his mother was bipolar and not mentally sound.
“I’m trying to help her return to the US,” he said. “The news and people are making fun of her, showing her personal IDs without permission, and she wasn’t married to anyone.”
