WASHINGTON: The United States has carried out a significant and politically sensitive international operation by seizing an oil tanker near the Venezuelan coast. The vessel, identified as ‘THE SKIPPER,’ is alleged to be linked to an illegal shipping network that provides support to terrorist organizations.
The US Attorney General justified the aggressive action, stating that the tanker had been under international sanctions for several years and was actively being used for the illicit transport of oil originating from both Venezuela and Iran. This move highlights the U.S. commitment to enforcing sanctions against entities involved in destabilizing activities.
The high-stakes operation was executed by a joint force comprising the FBI, Homeland Security, and the Coast Guard, who served the seizure warrant with strategic support from the Department of Defense.
According to media reports, the action comes as President Trump intensifies his ongoing campaign to exert maximum pressure on Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, signaling continued political confrontation in the region.
