US Secretary of Energy Chris Wright has clarified that the United States is not currently planning to conduct explosive nuclear tests.
In an interview with Fox News, Wright dismissed speculation, stating that the tests under discussion are not actual “nuclear explosions.”
“The kind of tests we’re talking about, those are just system tests,” Wright explained, referring to them as “non-critical explosions.”
According to the secretary, these tests involve all the components necessary to activate a nuclear weapon, but the process does not include the detonation of the actual nuclear material. He stated that the sole purpose of these tests is to verify that all the weapon’s other systems are functioning correctly and would be operational in the event of an actual nuclear detonation.
