Pakistan has marked a significant achievement in digital inclusion, with nearly eight million women gaining access to mobile internet in 2024, representing a record surge in female digital connectivity.
State Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja shared these figures on Thursday, underscoring the narrowing digital gender gap within the country. She revealed that the disparity in internet usage between men and women has decreased from 38% to 25%, a substantial advancement towards digital equality.
“This progress mirrors the Prime Minister’s digital vision and the government’s extensive endeavors to empower women through technology,” the minister stated.
She emphasized that the digital inclusion of women remains a paramount priority for the Ministry of IT, with a particular focus on expanding access in rural regions. The increased engagement of women from underdeveloped and remote areas has been instrumental in reducing the digital gender gap, she added.
“We are dedicated to establishing women as equal participants in the nation’s digital advancement. Empowering women through connectivity is not merely a policy—it’s a national aspiration,” Ms. Khawaja affirmed.
