University of Karachi’s prestigious alumni association, the University of Karachi (International) Union, held a crucial meeting on January 1 with the university’s Vice Chancellor, Dr. Khalid Mahmood Iraqi, and members of the organizing committee to finalize plans for the annual ‘Youm-e-Jamia’ celebration. The event, scheduled to take place on January 1, 2026, will honor the university’s traditions and pay tribute to its alma mater.
The meeting was attended by Prof. Ijaz Farooqui, the President of the University of Karachi (International) Union, and other senior officials, who received a briefing on the arrangements from the organizing committee. The President expressed satisfaction with the preparations and announced that the event will be held in a befitting manner, with the guidance of the University’s Vice Chancellor, Dr. Khalid Iraqi.
The ceremony, scheduled to begin at 8:30 am on January 1, 2026, will feature a grand procession of the University’s faculty members, alumni, and dignitaries, led by the Vice Chancellor and the President of the University of Karachi (International) Union. The procession will commence at the Silver Jubilee Gate and proceed to the designated pandal, where prominent speakers will address the gathering.
Meanwhile, the City Courts in Karachi have been closed due to a strike called by the Bar Association in protest against the withdrawal of FIRs against some lawyers. The strike has been called by the President of the Karachi Bar Association, Ammar Nawaz Waraich, who has instructed his members not to appear in court today.
In Muree, the local administration has imposed Section 144, restricting non-family members from entering the Muree Main Road for the next two days. However, bachelor tourists are allowed to visit other locations in the area.
The first winter showers have hit Karachi, with reports indicating that the city may experience a cold spell due to the fog. The Pakistan Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rainfall in the city from afternoon onwards.
The Sindh government has inaugurated double-decker buses in the province, with the Chief Minister, Syed Murad Ali Shah, and other senior officials in attendance. However, the Chief Minister has expressed his reservations about the PTI government, citing their failure to deliver on their promises.
