Lahore – Scholars from various religious schools of thought have urged political leaders to adopt a sensible approach, warning that the ongoing protests and sit-ins are detrimental to the country. Their remarks came during a meeting of the Kul Masalik Ulema Board, chaired by Maulana Asim Makhdoom on Sunday.
Prominent participants included Allama Mohsin Golrawi, Qari Khalid Mahmood, Agha Saghir Abbas Virk, and Allama Muhammad Badr. The scholars emphasized that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) should engage in dialogue with the government, noting that if PTI members can hold talks with Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), there should be no hesitation in engaging with the current administration.
Focus on National Interest
The ulema highlighted the dire situation in District Kurram, particularly the violence in Parachinar, where numerous lives have been lost. They expressed disappointment that political leaders appear more focused on safeguarding their political interests than addressing the pressing humanitarian crisis in the region.
Escalation of Tensions
The call for dialogue comes as tensions escalate, with a PTI convoy led by Bushra Bibi and KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur heading to Islamabad from Peshawar. The government has responded by blocking major roads leading to the capital with containers and barricades to prevent further unrest.
PTI leaders claim that around 490 of their workers and leaders have been arrested across Punjab, with an additional 100 reportedly missing.
The ulema stressed that constructive dialogue and a focus on resolving national issues are crucial for the well-being of the country and its citizens.
