A Ukrainian drone attack on Moscow overnight resulted in one fatality when debris from a downed drone struck an apartment building, causing a fire, according to Russian officials.
The attack took place in the Ramenskoye district, located about 50 kilometers southeast of the Kremlin, and caused damage to multiple high-rise buildings. Moscow Governor Andrei Vorobyov confirmed that several apartments were engulfed in flames from the drone’s remains, prompting emergency services to respond to the fire.
Videos circulating on Russian Telegram channels depicted flames and smoke rising from a multi-story residential building, with reports indicating that at least five flats were destroyed.
Russia’s defense forces reported intercepting over 70 Ukrainian drones overnight, with 15 shot down in and around Moscow. Additional drones were intercepted in the Bryansk and Tula regions, with Bryansk officials describing the attack as “massive” but reporting no casualties.
The drone strike led to significant disruptions, resulting in the suspension of more than 30 flights from major Moscow airports, including Zhukovo and Domodedovo. However, these airports resumed normal operations after a brief suspension on Tuesday, as reported by Russia’s aviation authority, Rosaviatsia, via Telegram.
Russia’s defense ministry announced that air defenses had downed 144 Ukrainian drones overnight, including 20 over Moscow. The Ministry’s statement detailed interceptions of 72 UAVs over Bryansk region, 20 over Moscow region, 14 over Kursk region, 13 over Tula region, and an additional 25 across five other regions.
Ukraine has not yet commented on the strike, which coincided with Russian drone attacks on Kyiv, marking another escalation in the ongoing conflict as Ukraine continues to enhance its drone capabilities to target Russian infrastructure.
