Bollywood playback singer Udit Narayan has found himself at the center of controversy after a video from his recent concert went viral.

Viral video sparks outrage
During his live performance, Udit Narayan was seen singing ‘Tip Tip Barsa Paani’ when he leaned in to kiss a female fan on the lips. The video also captures him instructing a bouncer to allow the fan to come closer for a selfie before the unexpected kiss.
The internet erupted with strong reactions
The video has caused a stir, with many social media users criticizing the singer’s behavior. One user commented, “Can’t believe my eyes… What is this? And we worship these celebs?” Another wrote, “What the hell was that? The fact that no one is calling this out just because he is Udit Narayan is disturbing.”
Some users also questioned the double standards of the industry regarding celebrity behavior, while others urged the singer to address the controversy.
Udit Narayan’s response
In an interview with an Indian media outlet, singer Udit Narayan addressed the viral video. He clarified his stance, saying, “Fans are crazy. We are not like this. We are decent people.” He acknowledged that while some fans show affection through gestures like handshakes or kisses, it often crosses into madness. “What is the point of spreading this? There were so many people in the crowd, and we have bodyguards too. But fans think they’re getting a chance to meet, so someone extends their hand for a handshake, some kiss the hands… this is all madness.”
Udit emphasized that celebrities should not give too much attention to such behavior, suggesting it is part of the passion fans have for their idols. “We should not pay attention to this.”
He also shared his perspective on fan frenzy during performances, saying, “When I’m singing, the fans go crazy, and I like to keep them happy. Otherwise, we are not those kind of people. We have to keep them happy.”
Regarding the specific incident with the fan kissing him on the lips, Udit clarified, “I’ve been in Bollywood for 46 years now, and my image hasn’t been such (that I forcefully kiss fans).” He continued, expressing gratitude for the love his fans show him: “In fact, I fold my hands when I see the love my fans shower on me. I bow down, thinking perhaps this time will not come back tomorrow.”
